There is no possible comparison IMHO... what most people don't recon is that the war in Ukraine is something unprecedented Iraq 1991 was a huge coalition of over 600.000 combat personnel, backed by 1 million support personnel, from 17 nations against a decent but demotivated army of Saddam which, in a matter of weeks, dissolved into mass surrendering The 2003 Iraq war was again a massive army VS a war torn country with fearsome but badly equipped guerrilla forces The rest were basically small asymmetrical conflict bullying guerrillas in flip flops riding donkeys and not much more Ukraine is a whole other level; an all out modern war using all the most powerful weaponry developed by Russia in the '80s, 90s and 2000s to wage an all out war against NATO (which it's basically doing)... massive artillery, massive EW systems, dense AA, dozens of mechanized units with tens of thousands of trained men each, automatic mine layers, the latest in drone technology be it tiny ones up to large surveillance and tactical ones, arrays of rockets and missiles from various manpads up to heavy ballistic and cruise missiles, precision bombs, hypersonic missiles launched from strategic bombers, even a few submarine launched heavy missiles with conventional payload (in Mariuopol at the beginning, NATO gave means and assistance to Ukraine to sink the Moskva exactly as a "don't go that far" signal to it's counterpart) All this is going on into the most horrific war grounds... a colossal flat farmland that brings the combatants to resort to TRENCH SURVIVAL war tactics in a hail of rounds, ammo, missiles that goes on 24/7 If you look at the images coming from the various fronts the terrain looks like the fucken MOON... cities are literally wrecked entirely and rendered charred skeletons...

F-22 can only dream of performing 20% of the advancements of SU57. The maneuverability of SU57 is 3 decades ahead of what the best US fighter can do.

Sure, it was better than the F-16 at ground attack moatly because of a higher payload and more fuel meaning it could fly missions without external tanks... but it was *inferior* at the *one* thing that the F-16 actually did better than the F-15 (dogfighting - a Viper - but not an XL - can outturn an Eagle easily), while costing more than the most expensive F-15 variants. Even in the (not really envisioned at the time, because the nexessary missiles, data links, and stealth fighters with air to air capabikity, were all still more than a decade in the future, even as pre-prpdiction types) role of a "missile truck"☆, the F-16XL wouldn't perform better than an F-15 variant (the now F-15EX). At that point, all it's bringing to the table is supercruise... which is more useful to a continental defence *interceptor* than it is to a geberal purpose fighter. I mean, supercruise is nice to have if it doesn't cost you any more useful performance and doesn't cost too much. . ☆ To stand back and deliver a massive load of long range missiles while the forward positioned stealth aircraft stayed stealthy without any external stores, using their low interxeot radars in TWS (Track While Scan) mode and data links to take missiles "handed off" from the missile trucks behind them. This overcomes the problem of stealthy aircraft having low payloads (especially if they want to maintain their small RCS).

This was the biggest problem facing the planners of D-Day and the reason why Operation Sea Lion was cancelled and this was crossing a channel 30 miles across.

About Third Gen - it was been made ON PAPER, and actually where was have some blueprint. Basically - it was supposed to be based on Russian/Late Soviet "MTT" chassis. Also, there was more Arctic Soviet Vehicles. "Penguin", Artic version of Military AT-T, and now famous Russian "Vityaz" (DT-10, and DT-50).

9:45 - it's a mistake, missile isn't fire and forget type. It's 9К121 'Vikhr' missile system, the same is used on Ka-52 and Mi-28 helicopters. The missile itself is a beam-rider. It has a sensor on its tail (not the head) which detects a beam projected from the aircraft at the target. It can detect how far from the center of the beam it has deviated and correct itself. The beam has to be projected at the target until impact, making the missile not fire and forget type. The beam is quite narrow, which significantly limits aircraft maneurability. In addition, Su-25 flies much faster than a helicopter, meaning it would be pretty close to the target at the moment of missile impact, making it vulnerable to anti-air missiles. This could be the reason why Su-25T has not been mass-produced.
